Origin of words….a bit of trivia

I love to learn the origin of words; especially those used in baking. For example, did you know that the Romans were paid an allowance to buy salt (salus) and hence the word “salary”? And, the word “cookie” comes from the Dutch word “koekje” which means small cake. The earliest cookie-style cakes are thought to date back to 7th century Persia, one of the first countries to cultivate sugar.
